I’ve got a lot of love in my heart for Mega Man (Rockman to you purists) and a dream of hoverboards in 2015 that can’t be sustained.
Long story short, this mashup was kind of inevitable.
Thanks to the two-week holiday break at the college I work for, I was able to start putting the pieces together on my latest piece. I’ve made a New Year’s resolution to spend at least 30 minutes a day on my graphic work throughout 2014, and the creative juices are flowing pretty well.
But back to the artwork.
This essentially reimagines Mega Man as Marty McFly and his faithful robot canine, Rush, with an added ability to travel through time. We all remember the Rush Coil, Rush Jet, and Rush Marine, right? Think of this as the Rush-lorean.
Using the Rush Marine tool as the main inspiration, I gave the normally-jagged Delorean a dome-shaped body and kept the ribbed seat from the Rush Marine in tact. A puffy orange vest and slightly raised helmet gave me the perfect Mega McFly.
The colors aren’t done yet on this version – some halftones still need to be corrected, one needs to be added to the background, and I still haven’t added the text yet! Hopefully, “Back to 20XX” (which pays homage to the year “Mega Man 3″ takes place and the first appearance of Rush) will get picked up by one of the daily T-shirt sale sites.
“Mega Man 3″ was the first title in the series I ever played, so I’m really excited to finish this.
Up next, I’ve got some newly inspired mashups that separately pull inspiration from the Legend of Zelda series and Dragon Ball Z.
